How to access the customer database

For the 2.2.X line of gnucash, the database is an encrypted XML file. For 2.3.X (unstable) which is leading to 2.4.0 (stable), we are adding support for an sqlite3, mysql or postgresql database. For 2.4.0, there will be no support for multiple users or for reloading a db after change i.e. if gnucash is closed, it might be safe to add customers, but if gnucash is open, there is no manual or automatic refresh. The user would need to close and reopen to see any change in customers.

Subject: How to access the customer database
Hello, I know you can export an XML file of each customer, but I would like
to be able to talk to the actual database within GnuCash. Does anyone know
where this information is located and how I would go about syncing them up
via a web application?
