That's something I need to understand. Even the object files are  
coming out huge. At the moment I can't build WebKit becuase ranlib  
runs out of virtual memory trying to catalog WebCore.a, which is  
bloated to 1.6 G (individual object files based on 2K of code bloat  
out to 3M). It's indeed likely that it's a big part of the problem.

Yes, debugging is turned on. I'll do a run with it off soon and see  
what happens. But ISTM that there's more than just debugging going on  
here.
