One approach would be to pre-build the necessary dependencies and make
them available "publically".  This way someone who wants to build
GnuCash need only download the pre-built dependencies and install them.
This can be automated (similar to the current automation).

Note that we already do this for e.g. webkit.

I think being able to update individual dependencies is a good thing.
Having a single "GnuCash SDK" bundle would make it much harder to
upgrade individual dependencies.
