After spending two days entering transactions, I quit the app. Then when I go back to the app, double-click on it, I get a prompt to start a new document--my old one is gone as far as I can see. I know there was autosaving going on. But where is the actual document on my Apple? The gnucash app is in my Applications folder. But launching it doesn't get back my document, so where did it go? Please save my day and let me know if I can get it back.

So long as you accepted the default folder when you first saved the data, it will be in your home folder and will have an extension ".gnucash" (e.g., sample.gnucash). It should be listed at the bottom of the File menu with a 1 next to it.

Before you try to open it, though, have a look at the title of the main Gnucash window. If it has a file name but is otherwise blank except for the toolbar, try View>New Account Page to redisplay your chart of accounts.
