The synchronization is a one-way merge of changes from HEAD into G2.  It
is not a two way synchronization.  This means that G2 has all the
changes from HEAD, plus the gnome2/gui changes, while HEAD has not
received any code from G2.  G2 is far, far different from HEAD in some
areas, mostly the UI ones.  In other areas like the engine it should be
identical (with the exception of new features done on the G2 branch).

Discontinuing is not quite the right word.  That implies abandoning
those changes.  We should think about collapsing all the changes in the
g2 branch back into HEAD at some point.
