rpm problem gnucash-1.4-11 dependences

Hi all

When I try to install guile-1.4-10mdk.i586 which contains library
libguile.so.9 (according to a search in www.rpmfind.net) the following
error is given:

"Only packages with major numbers <=3 are supported by this version of
rpm"

My version of rpm is   3.0.4

My question is - which version of rpm should I be using?

I downloaded package  rpm-4.0-26mdk.i586   and when I tried to install I
got the same error message.

Thanks for your help. A verbose reply to this newbie will be very
acceptable.
