I went through something just like this in redhat a year ago.
You need to download rpm-3.0.5 or rpm-3.0.16 or something like that
(the newest rpm 3.0.x) and install that first. Then you can install
rpm-4.0. The problem is that the old rpm's don't know how to install
the new rpm's, and rpm-4.0 requires a newer rpm installer...
(your problem has nothing to do with guile or gnucash).
