Multi-line text in memo

Using 1.6.1

I've found I can paste multi-line text into the memo field of a register.  
The side effect is the increased size of the status bar, which doesn't change 
back until you close the register.  A little annoying, but I find it 
extremely useful for storing all sorts of info associated with the 
transactions. 

It looks as if the text is center justified around the longest line, so if a 
line is too long, other lines will dissapear to the right.  Without a 
scrollbar you've got to stretch it to see it.

I just use xclipboard to write the memo, and paste it right in.
A more friendly interface would be nice, but it works now.
