Speed of graphic reports

Hi, I am useing 1.6.1, on a redhat 7.1 + ximian system.  

The graphics (bar charts etc) are so slow that the first 2 or 3 times I
thought gnucahs had crashed.

I guess this is beciaus it must start an external app first (as the cpu
load shows almost nill during the wait I assume it's not a math problem)

Is it possible in the furtre to have the grapnics features included as
part of gnucash, perhabes turning the relevant parts of guppi into a lib
(or is this already the case?)

Perhapse some form of visual feed back could be included, as gnucash is
totaly unresponsive (even menus) untill the report is generated.


Or, maybe it's my setup and this runs really smothyl for others?
