I'm new to this list.

I got 1.4.x going a while ago but was defeated by the libraries
for 1.6 (I couldn't build glib-1.99 which was needed for GAL).
>From looking at the website ("wait till your distribution has
a package"), it appears I'm not the only one. I didn't
find a FAQ that you mention with the search feature on the website.

Is there a list of war stories anywhere? Is there an archive of
this list?
