Most of the time this occurs because of some incorrect formatting 
having nothing to do with the date.  You best bet for narrowing down 
the proble is to use a test file in gnucash to import the QIF file 
into.  Open up the QIF file in a text editor (you might want to make 
a backup copy of the original first) and begin by deleting all but 
the first record, and then test the import.  If that works, add the 
second record, then the third.  At some point it should become 
obvious what the problem is.

Usually it's that there's a required field missing to one or more 
records.  I believe you need to have at the very least, a date and an 
amount line within each record; usually the 'D' and the 'T' or 'L' 
records.
