Sales tax on split transactions

I'm wondering what the easiest way is to deal
with sales tax on split transactions.

Typical situation: I go to walmart and buy 20
items. 12 of those are groceries, 5 are gifts
and 3 are other stuff. On the receipt i get
there's only the before-tax price of each item
and the total tax.

Currently i just put in a line for each of the
items and transfer to the correct account, and
one line for the tax which gets transferred to
whatever i spent the most money on.

Is there an easy way to split up the tax as well,
without having to calculate the tax manually for
each line?
