unusable gnucash

Hey, Dave.
I'm sorry if I sound like I don't know what I'm doing. In the case of
Gnucash, it's true, but I'm really not a newbie to Linux. (I've used
Linux exclusively since 1994, when you had to compile your own kernel.)
I did install gnucash from the RedHat CD. Same symptom. I do keep my
system up to date with the Ximian Red Carpet service. (I updated my
software this morning, in fact.) It also detects no conflicts with the
gnucash rpm as I have it installed, but the symptom persists.
I've built it from source - it was a little tricky to meet all the
dependencies, but I did finally get it to compile. It exhibits the same
symptom -- I can't enter monetary values into the interface.
I appreciate your attempts to help. With the economy in its current
state and my personal finances close behind, I would really like to use
this software to help me sort them out.
cheers!
