compilation problems

Dear all,

I am new to this list so please forgive me if this has been asked before.  I 
am trying to compile GnuCash 1.8.2 on a SuSE 8.0 system.  I have tried to 
resolve each dependency as it arrives but I am stuck on Guppi and would 
really apprecite some help.

When I type ./configure it gives the following error:

checking for libguppi - version >= 0.35.1... no
*** Could not run libguppi test program, checking why...

*** exact error that occured. This usually means libguppi was incorrectly 
installed

In the config.log file ther last few lines say this:
