I don't know the differences between SuSE 8.0 and 8.1, but they were
only a couple of months apart so it shouldn't be too different.
SuSE 8.1 has Guppi and Guppi-devel 0.43.3 packages.
Have you tried installing GnuCash 1.6 using YaST Control Center? This
should take care of most of your dependencies. You'll still need
guile-1.6.3 and g-wrap-1.3.4. If you want OFX/QFX support you'll also
need OpenSP-1.5, openjade-1.3.2, and libofx-0.6.2. Note that openjade is
difficult to install.
The hardest challenge I found with SuSE was getting evolution-1.2 and
gnucash-1.8.2 to work at the same time. They use incompatible versions
of gtkhtml-1.1. If you want to run evolution, install it FIRST using
Ximian RedCarpet then use YaST to uninstall gtkhtml1.1-ximian (MAKE SURE
YOU TURN OFF Resolve Dependencies) and install gtkhtml-1.1.4 before
compiling GnuCash. Both evolution and GnuCash will work, but YaST will
bug you to fix the broken dependencies.
I've also found with SuSE that you need to install everything with RPM.
I put together RPMs for SuSE 8.1 for the above packages you are welcome
to try.
Note that they are UNOFFICIAL, UNTESTED, UNDOCUMENTED, UNCONVENTIONAL,
and UNSUPPORTED. I'm not a programmer and I just did what I needed to
get them to compile. The spec files are not properly documented and
probably don't fully comply with programming etiquette or licenses for
giving proper credit where it's due.
I welcome any programmer to take my files and fix them for proper public
distribution.
If you want them, e-mail me and I'll send you the link (I don't want the
link made public).
