saving to floppy

If I wanted to save the data files from 1.6.7 to a floppy, so I can install 
MDK 9.1, then open it after installing 1.8.1, how would I do that? I have 
tried copying the file, but even the present version will not open that. It 
says it needs a newer version of GnuCash to open.
