saving to floppy

Are you sure you saved the data file, and not a log file?
Also make sure the datafile did not get truncated when you saved it
to a floppy. And if you compressed it, be sure to uncompress it.
I can absolutely guarantee you 100% that gnucash-1.8 can read a
data-file generated by gnucash-1.6.
