Opening 1.8.1 file in 1.6.6

I originally did all my finances in GnuCash 1.8.1 on my RedHat 8.0 box. 
I just redid everything, though, using Debian stable, which contains 
GnuCash 1.6.6. I can't open my 1.8.1 file now, so I'm wondering if 
there's some little trick or manual reformatting or something I can do 
to get this to work. I really don't want to upgrade practically my whole 
distro to unstable just to open this file.
