libguppi not found

Still plugging away at this.  I'm now down to an error saying that libguppi isn't found.  However it is installed
libguppi.la     libguppi.so.16.0.0  libguppitank.so
libguppi.so     libguppiConf.sh     libguppitank.so.16
libguppi.so.16  libguppitank.la     libguppitank.so.16.0.0

in the /opt/gnome/lib directory and additional header files are located in /opt/gnome/include/gnome-1.0/libguppi.  The error says to look in the gnome-config file, but it looks OK.  Any thoughts?
