qif import has all amounts 0

I am using gnucash 1.8.3, on redhat 7.3.   I just tried to enter my 
credit card data, which I have successfully done for the last three 
years. (thanks again for a great program!) The QIF importer  proceeded 
normally, but when done all the amounts were zero. I went back and tried 
last months qif file (which I had imported using 1.8.2), and again all 
numerical values were zero.

What should I do? Go back to 1.8.2?
