problems using subaccounts with Profit and Loss report

Hello,
Sorry if this is a repost. I don't know if my mail client ever sent out my
previous message.
I'm running GnuCash 1.8.8 on Gentoo. GnuCash was emerged from portage.
I'm trying to use the profit/loss report, but only with certain sub
accounts, not the entire Income or Expense account. I browsed the mailing
list a bit, searched on Google, and tried Dave Gilbert's manual, but I
couldn't find the answer.
My Problem: I get reimbursed for certain expenses, which I keep in special
subaccounts (off of Expenses). I also get refunded occasionally, and these
refunds go into a subaccount under Income. I'd like to display the
difference between my reimbursable expenses and what I've been reimbursed so
far (so I can see how much money is owed to me).
What I'm trying to do: Create a Profit/Loss report with only a few
subaccounts selected under both Expenses and Income.
What I do: I load a Profit/Loss report, and I go into Options. I have "Group
the Accounts" and "Show Subtotals" selected in the Display dialog, and the
General dialog is all defaults. Under Accounts, I have "Always show
sub-accounts" selected. In Accounts, I deselect the main Expense account and
select just the subaccounts I want. I hit either Apply or OK.
What happens: No expenses at all show up in the report. It seems like unless
I select the entire Income or Expense account, the subaccounts won't show up
at all.
What I expected: Only the subaccounts I wanted would be on the report.
Thank you for your help.
-Chris
