account balances

Hi all.

First of let me mention a big thanks for such a nice app! Once I become
more proficient with it I will probably appreciate it even more...

As a new user of GC, I have a simple trouble. for instance, I would like
to enter numbers directly into my credit card setup to show a current
balance. eg: somecard $1000.00.

I do not see how to accomplish this with entering the numbers into a
charge field or similar first. That's good though not what I am
needing/wanting to do. I'd like to start with a total $ amount owing on
a card and then be able to show payments made against it.

Perhaps I do not see a simple a way to do this? 

I welcome any and all responses from other users regarding the above.
