generic sql [wasRe: The Gnucash database?]

I have installed 1.8.9 on RHEL WS 3. It took a morning starting from the groundwork for a
previous 1.8.8 install. Some of those missing devel
packages now exist on the internet; for others I  did a rebuild from the source rpm either for
EL or RH9. This was just the standard gnucash tar ball: no ofx, hbci, etc. At least that
part is doable with only a little bit of knowledge of rpms, etc.
