Yes.  For RHEL3 I had to I had to go back to the RH9 distro for a number a packages to satisfy the dependencies.  Once I had it installed I got a run-time error on startup.  Specifically, I got the following:

That's when I went the tarball route.  

But after you posted the above I tried the rpm again (on another RHEL3 machine).  The problem went away when I switched from guile-1.6.4-8 (from the RHEL3 distro) to guile-1.6.4-8.2 (from the RH9.0.93 - Beta Updates distro).
