Why? The OS already handles permissions and security, and does it
well. There exist encryption programs which handle encryption, and do
that job well. Were gnucash to add a password feature, it'd be one more
thing to break, and would probably not do a great job of it (no offence
to the developers--I imagine that none are encryption or security
geeks). Most 'password protection' simply gives a false sense of
security--why do that?
The Unix philosophy is for each tool to do one thing, and do it well.
Gnucash handles double-entry accounting, and does it well. Other tools
exist to handle security, and do that well.
