I'm going to take it the command didn't output anything, then?

The error you were getting was basically saying that you have a LANG or
one of the LC_* environment variables set to a value that the c library
doesn't understand.

Since it works in your account, but doesn't work in the other accounts,
there's obviously a difference between the environments of the accounts.
