can't move account using account editor

I'm using gnucash 1.8.11 on debian and when I try to "re-parent"
an account with the edit, it highlights the current parent in the
"Parent Account" subwindow of the "General Information" tab
in the "Edit Account-Assets:Current Assets:Checking Account:float"
window.  The highlighted current parent is "Checking Account"
and I move the hightlight to "Current Assets", but then there's
not button or any way to "apply" that change; so, all I can do
is close the window with the new parent hightlighted, but then
the "Accounts- GnuCash (/home/<myname>/gnucash/<my.gnucash.file.log)"
does not show "float" with "Current Assets" as parent.

How can do this?
