Unbalanced balance sheet

I get this problem all the time, but it is operator failure in each case.
I keep the books for my local religious institution. When we get a new 
member, I make an account for him or her (under INCOME-GiftsReceived).
If I neglect to customize the Balance Sheet report to include this new 
member, the balance sheet will be off. It is obvious that it is off, and 
since I make this mistake frequently enough, I can always tell what to do 
to fix it: fix the customize part of the balance sheet report.
