Can't enter values to balance transaction... a bug?

Your screen shot did not show which account register you were using to 
enter the transaction.  When you get to the first split line, gnucash 
fills in the account with that of the current register.  It allows you 
to change this, but reacts badly when you do.  Is it possible that you 
changed that account on the first split line?
