The existing reports are pretty good examples. The "Sample Report with
Examples" is the "hello, world" of reports, and as such should be your
starting point. In terms of interacting with gnucash application
semantics, it's hard to be more simple than the transaction report -- it
just goes through the transactions and reports them, with little in the
way of aggregation.
There's no easy way to to -- for instance -- plop a .scm file in your
home directory to get it loaded as a new report. The "easiest" thing is
to install your new report right alongside the existing ones in the
distribution directory. If it's a general-purpose report, contribute it
back to us and hopefully we can include it in the next release.
