odd split issue

I started using gnucash to track a rental property is purchased. 
Everything worked great until I tried to enter the settlement information.

Since I used a personal check at settlement, I wanted to show the money
coming from a Draw account and going into the appropriate Fixed Assets,
Liabilities, Expenses, etc.  Everything seemed to work ok until I finished
the transaction then it created a duplicate.  The first correctly shows
the $22,541.34 increase to the draw account and the second shows a $50
decrease.

I tried deleting the bogus transaction, but when I do the good one goes
too.  I get the same behavior anytime I re-enter the information.

I'm hoping I just made silly/stupid newbie mistake.  Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
