Remote X-Windows Performance With GnuCash 1.9.5

I use GnuCash 2 on my Windows XP laptop using Exceed as my 
X-Windows server.  The 1.8.x version is fairly responsive using 
this configuration, but the 1.9.5 beta is so slow  that it is 
unusable.  

Is this a constraint of gtk2?  Is there a setting in GnuCash 1.9.5 or
Gnome that I can tweak to improve X Windows performance over a
network?  Or am I just stuck using GnuCash on my Linux workstation?
