Weird auto-created transactions

GnuCash 2.0.2 on a FC3->FC5->FC6 upgraded system.

Data file has been created long ago on some 1.8 version.

I'm having a few issues with the "auto-created transactions notification"


1) Between the toolbar and the list of transactions there's an empty space
    (about the same size as the toolbar when I make the window as small as
    possible), which grows in the same proportion as the transactions 
part when
    making the window bigger. When stretching the window to the full 
height of
    the screen, it takes up roughly 40% of the screen.
    Any idea why this is happening or how to fix it ?

2) For this run there's supposed to be about 8 transactions in there, 
but instead
    there's hundreds, including some manually entered transactions from 
as far back
    as July 2002.
    I don't see anything special about those specific transactions. They 
show up every
    time I start gnucash, but it doesn't seem like they get duplicated 
every time or anything
    like that.
    It doesn't appear to have any real impact but it's annoying, so any 
advice would be
    appreciated.
