Guile 1.8 + slib 3?

Slightly OT except it's on the path to installing Gnucash on my Slack 11
machine.

Has anyone gotten slib 3 to work with Guile 1.8? Specifically Guile
1.8.0 and slib 3a4. I did find this message:

but didn't understand the part about replacing slib.scm.

For now I think downgrading to Guile 1.6 is worth a try.
