QIF import crash

I saw archived postings for this in older versions (circa 2001-2003) but not
lately.  I exported transactions from an investment account into a QIF file
under Quicken 2004.  When I attempted to import the QIF file, GnuCash would
crunch on the file for awhile, then crash.  I even cut the file down to a
single dividend transaction, same thing.  This appears to be obvious cockpit
error, but I don't know how or why.  Clues, anyone?  BTW, this is the
GnuCash version that ships with FC6.  Thanks.
