Can't delete a transaction

So the only way to fix this, maybe, is to recreate the entire file?

I just upgraded to GnuCash 2.2.0 to see if that fixed the problem, but the
delete button still does nothing on transactions.  Is there a particular
part of the transaction line that has to be selected for this to work?
