Hi Bob,
>From earlier posts, you are on SuSE 10.2, as am I. If you really want to go
ahead and compile your own GC, then go for it, by all means. However, you
will probably break your rpm database in the process (the list of installed
software packages and their dependencies) and cause many hours of
head-scratching later on... </dire-warning> ;-)
I _suggest_ that you use the rpm version made by Christian - it (and several
earlier versions) works for me.
I'll give you a step-by-step method for getting it, sorry if you know this
stuff already...
1. Start YaST (under system in the KDE menu) (you'll need the root password)
2. Select Software -> Installation Source
3. Add a new source, type http
4. Enter server details: ftp.gwdg.de
5. Enter path: /linux/misc/suser-crauch/10.2
6. OK the addition and then Finish in the Installation Source box
7. Wait a little time while the new packages/source are added to the system
..
8. In YaST, go to Software->Software Management
9. On the left hand side, select Filter -> Installation Source, then select
the "suser-crauch" source.
10. in the right-hand pane, you should now see a list of the packages which
are available from that installation source - select gnucash, ( should get a
symbol like two arrows going round in a circle, to "refresh") and if you
still want them, the gnucash-docs package
11. Click accept, and let the dependencies get sorted out and the install take
place.
...
12. Close YaST and enjoy the new gnucash....
13. There is a SuSE bug with the helpsystem and GC docs - see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232640 (comment 2) for a solution
HTH,
Maf.
