You have to edit the file src/gnome-utils/print-session.c, change the
font specified on line 64, and recompile.

I doubt that would work, as you most likely feed the top of the page
first into your printer from the top.  If you tear off the top check, I
would expect that you would also call the next check "top".  If you
don't tear it off and print a second check, you would then use the
"middle" setting.  This is speculation on my part, as I don't use the
check printing capability of gnucash.
