OK, this is what I've done on SuSE 10.2, GC 2.2.1 - there may be other ways,
etc.

1. I use the .xac file extension for my data files, and always have, even
though GC doesn't care about an extension. Maybe gc 1.6.x applied it by
default all those years ago. Anyway, AFAIK, you will need the extension for
this method to work.

2. create a mime-type for .xac files. You can do this in konqueror by
right-clicking on a gc datafile, selecting properties, then the little
spanner button on the right of the dialog. This will do an association per
user. However, I wanted to make the change system-wide, so I put the file
x-gnucash.desktop (as attached) in /usr/local/kde/share/mimelnk/application/

3. define an action for that mimetype - (which I think Josh has just altered
in trunk...) add this line:
MimeType=application/x-gnucash
to the file /opt/gnome/share/applications/gnucash.desktop

KDE picked up the changes after a few seconds, IIRC.

(Note: I used the mimetype application/x-gnucash as a user extension. I
suppose that if it is now in trunk, then application/gnucash may be more
correct, also, there is no internationalisation in the .desktop file)

HTH,
Maf.
