Find Transaction window disappearing

I have the same trouble as reported in this bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467776

What can I do in the meantime before the bug is fixed?  I'd like to be 
able to search...

My husband has Debian install the packages, so I'm not really comfortable 
implementing the fix proposed by treehouse in the bug report.  He (my 
husband) probably  won't mind if it's the only thing to do at the moment.
