incorrect starting balance -> can't find the issue

Another thing that can be wrong is to have an entry of half the amount on the 
wrong side.  But if your account reconciled last month, your starting balance 
should agree.  Last month's closing balance is this month's opening balance, 
both at the Bank and in your cash book.
