The bank statement does not have the unpresented cheques and unrecorded 
deposits to allow the balances to tally.
I get the impression that the concept "the reconciliation statement" is not 
used in the US, because it certainly is a different concept to the bank 
statement. It is to explain the differences between the bank's version of the 
account, and the version of the account kept by the account holder.
