Gnucash access to internet when starting up

I must admit that I hadn't thoroughly read all the comments. It all 
seemed to be a bit heavy reading.

Having gone through all the comments now I can confirm that my 
experience is the same as that of WMS reported in comment #21. Whilst 
the target external ip address is frequently my isp's pop server, it 
isn't always the same although the port so far has always been 53 (DNS). 
I just started up gnucash and it asked to connect to 66.135.203.186 
which resolves to api.ebay.com. Now where did it get this ip address from?
