Gnucash access to internet when starting up

Gnucash for Linux checks that it can use Finance::Quote.  This is a routine 
check of its functionality.  Nothing that you can't do without.  

Are you sure that the other tries are initiated by Gnucash? There is a certain 
amount of looking up going on in the background on my system all the time.  
They may be BitTorrent servers trying to make a connection, or simply whois 
lookups.  A properly configured firewall is your answer.
