Workaround for Localization Behaviour?

Thanks Derek and Dave. With a little more digging I found a little bit
of clarification in "man locale".

Now I have another question: my accounts are in USD and I have set the
default currency to USD (overriding the locale); when gnucash runs
with the fr_CA locale, then it displays "USD" rather than "$". I would
expect the default currency to be displayed by its sign, and other
currencies by their codes. Which is correct? My expectation or
gnucash? =)
