account disappears

This would be a problem!  The lack of a LCK file means that it
couldn't write to the drive, or the write had some sort of
problem.

Well, I do have access to a thumb drive so I can try to test
it here, but....

OH!  OSX.......   Ummm... David?   I'm on Linux, and for some
reason I assumed you were too.
