GnuCash 2.2.5 compilation problems on Ubuntu Heron

Tony, I just did this not too long ago, so it can be done.
Unfortunately, I did not keep a step-by-step log, but like you, I found
the process somewhat frustrating. Ultimately, I was able to just grind
through the missing dependencies until I got a clean compile.
There are two slib-related packages in repository installed on my
machine:
slib 3a4-4
guile1.6-slib
Also, I seem to remember that installing guile-1.6 worked better than
installing guile-1.8. The guile-related packages I have installed are:
guile-1.6
guile-1.6-dev
guile-1.6-libs
guile-1.6-slib
libguile-ltdl-1
lib1threads-12
swig
Hope this helps.
