New User opening balance question

The opening balance is just a regular transaction from Equity:Opening
Balances to the account in question (or reverse for a Liability opening
balance). So you are incorrect saying that entering it as a deposit
would be incorrect. All the dialog does is create this transaction
for you automagically instead of requiring you to enter it by hand.
