It can happen if you shut down or rebooted (or if your system froze) without 
exiting Gnucash first.  It is designed to prevent you from having two copies 
of Gnucash open at once.  If you are sure that you haven't already started 
Gnucash, it is OK to click "Open anyway."  If the message comes up 
repeatedly, you may have a problem.
