They solve the problem because you can input the actual value at
the time of the report and then your Balance Sheet will report
that information, which is what you probably want.

Although from reading other mails it sounds like that's NOT what
you want, which is pretty odd.  I've never heard of a place
where you need to report how much you PAID for your stocks in
the balance sheet instead of the current value.

But anyways, no, the balance sheet, as it stands, cannot report
what you seem to want.
